The winger, who converted the Easter Road side’s first spot-kick as they defeated Motherwell 4-2 on penalties after the two teams couldn't be separated after extra time, was booked in the 88th minute for a foul and after his caution in the 4-0 win at Stranraer, there were fears the influential attacker may have to sit out the Hampden trip.

But the 28-year-old will be able to line up at the national stadium – because of a tweak to the competition’s disciplinary rules.

In previous seasons, players whose clubs entered the competition during the first three preliminary rounds would incur a suspension if they accumulated three cautions with players of clubs joining from the fourth round onwards copping a ban if they picked up just two yellows, as happened with Aberdeen captain Graeme Shinnie in the 2018/19 season.

Under these guidelines Boyle would have been forced to sit out the trip to Glasgow.

However, the three-booking rule has been extended to all clubs participating regardless of round of entry for the 2020/21 competition, clearing the way for the Australian internationalist to play at Hampden.

Additionally, should Boyle be cautioned in the semi-final tie he will still be available for the final should Hibs advance, with the disciplinary records being reset ahead of the last-four fixtures.

Cypriot internationalist Alex Gogic will miss the game against the Terrors following his red card against the Steelmen but will be available for selection should Hibs reach the final.
