However, it’s another trip to Hampden for the Easter Road side and a chance for the fans to poke fun at their rivals, who were eliminated by Alloa in the previous round.

Matt Reid added: "Thanks for taking ten years off my life expectancy."

Neil Laidlaw tweeted: "Utter tripe. Marciano got away with 2 terrible clearances near the end. Outfield awful performance."

John Sutherland said: "Good result in the end as the most important thing here is getting through to that next round."

Conor McLeod added: "Not a great performance but going through is the main thing - job done. The subs, especially Mallan changed the game."

Ross Millar pointed out: "Back to Hampden for the 8th time in past 7 seasons. Whichever way you look at it that’s an impressive record. And I guess beating Alloa isn’t for everyone."

Keith Robertson had words for Hibs' neighbours: "Who beat Alloa in the League Cup tonight? Better yet, who DIDNAE beat Alloa in the League Cup?"

Luke Cunningham said: "Very lucky to come away with the win tonight, but cup competitions are all about finding a way to scrape a win If you need to and it’s another trip to Hampden for the Hibees."
