Hibs head coach Jack Ross has revealed Kevin Nisbet suffered an injury in midweek that has kept him out of today’s Scottish Premiership match against St Johnstone.

The former Dunfermline Athletic striker has scored three goals for the Easter Road so far and has been named in the starting XI for the first four matches but misses out entirely with Scott Allan replacing the 24-year-old.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the game, Ross said: "Kevin picked up a hamstring injury in midweek so unfortunately he misses out today.

"It's nothing too serious, but hopefully we won't be without him for too long.

"We've had to change things a little bit in terms of structure but not in terms of how we're approaching the game."

Allan was a stand-out for the Capital club in the latter part of the curtailed 2019/20 campaign, and picked up where he left off with an assist for Martin Boyle’s second goal in the 2-1 opening-day win against Kilmarnock.

Ross continued: “In truth, Scott was very much in my thinking to play today, regardless of Kevin's injury.

"He's been terrific during my time at Hibs. His record of assists and goals since November last year is very, very good and he showed that again in the first game of the season.

"We felt that perhaps the games against Livingston and Dundee United weren't well-suited for him.

"However, today does suit him, and he's been desperate to get back playing."
