Hibs’ Leigh Griffiths back training with Wolves as future remains unclear

Griffiths’ loan deal at Easter Road is set to expire after the home game against Dundee a week on Saturday, although Hibs are hopeful of striking an agreement to keep hold of the SPL’s joint-top scorer.

Previous Wolves manager Stale Solbakken didn’t see Griffiths as part of his plans, but the Norwegian’s sacking at the weekend after four straight defeats, allied to the subsequent appointment of Dean Saunders to the Molineux hotseat, has altered the landscape. With Wolves languishing 18th in the Championship, having failed to score in four of their last six games, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Saunders will view the Scot as a ready-made striking solution.

The Welshman, however, admits he’s barely had time to assess his new squad and told the Evening News he’s not yet in a position to confirm whether or not Griffiths will spend the second half of the season in the Black Country.

“I said ‘hi’ to Leigh before my first training session but I’ve not had a proper chance to speak to him yet,” said Saunders. “He’s due to be back training with Hibs later this week I think, but as yet I don’t know what’s happening with Leigh. We should have a better idea of who’s staying and who’s going over the next few days.” Out-of-favour winger Ivan Sproule is poised to sever ties with Hibs and continue his career with Ross County. The Dingwall side have lined up an 18-month deal for the 31-year-old, who has started just two games for Hibs this season.
