Hibs star Leigh Griffiths : I’m happy to go it alone

LEIGH GRIFFITHS insists he will work harder than ever if Hibs manager Pat Fenlon decides to deploy him in a lone striker’s role this season.

The striker’s partner of last season, Garry O’Connor, left the club in the summer and Griffiths may now find that he has to go it alone against Dundee United on Sunday.

However, Griffiths reckons that he enjoys the pressure of being up front by himself – although he knows he can count on support from the likes of Ivan Sproule and Eoin Doyle.

Griffiths said: “I like being pressurised in a game. I played there a couple of times last season. I’m not the biggest, but I’ll be working my socks off. It’s up to the manager where he wants to play me, but wherever it is I’ll always give my all. But don’t forget we also have the likes of Ivan Sproule and Eoin Doyle who are electric.

“We’re all ready for it but we know it will be a difficult game. We know what Dundee United are like, a Peter Houston team is always hard to break down and tough to beat.

“We’ll be looking to give a good account of ourselves and hopefully they’ll be a bit tired from having played Dynamo Moscow last night while we are raring to get started.”
