Kevin McBride out to get one over John Rankin in Dundee derby

KEVIN McBride hopes to be part of a dominant team performance at Dens Park tomorrow so Dundee can claim the derby spoils and he can get one over on Dundee United’s John Rankin.

McBride and Rankin lined up together for Hibs, including in the Edinburgh derby, before each moving north and their duel will be one of the many intriguing battles in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash.

McBride said: “I might give him a text, but I’ve not actually spoken to him. I’ll speak to him after the game and hopefully I’ll have the bragging rights.

“John’s a very fit lad, good player, gives 100 per cent every day, but it’s a team game, it’s not just about one individual. As a team hopefully we can shine through.”

Dundee are five points adrift at the foot of the SPL entering this weekend’s fixtures following a 3-1 loss at second bottom St Mirren.

The Dark Blues are seeking a fourth win in six games on Sunday against United, who won the first derby of the season 3-0 at Tannadice in August.

Defence is key for Dundee to get a positive result, according to McBride. “The last time we gave silly goals away. If we can keep it tight and try to nick something as well, we do believe we can get something,” he said.
