Murray likely to miss out against Pars

Murray has had a scan and an injection in a bid to cure the groin problem which forced him out of the no-scoring draw against Celtic.

But while revealing he’ll be adopting a “wait and see” policy in regard to the 30-year-old, boss Colin Calderwood today insisted he won’t risk aggravating the problem with potentially longer-term consequences. The manager said: “We’ll have to see how things settle down with Ian over today and tomorrow but there is still a question mark over him as regards the weekend.”

However, with another international break leaving Hibs without a match until they play host to Kilmarnock in a fortnight’s time, Calderwood would prefer to give utility man Murray all the time he needs to recover rather than push him back into action too quickly.

Murray has been operating in the centre of defence in recent weeks with Scotland Under-21 captain Paul Hanlon moved to left back but in the captain’s absence David Stephens stepped in to partner Sean O’Hanlon to notable effect at Celtic Park.

Meanwhile, Hanlon, David Wotherspoon, Leigh Griffiths and Callum Booth – despite the fact he’s just begun his comeback after injury – have all been named in the Scotland Under-21 squad for the European Championship qualifier away to Holland a week on Monday.
