Michael Weir: Hibs' home form is inexcusable and they need to take more risks

Over the festive period you always get a result that no-one sees coming and unfortunately Hibs were the ones that copped it on Wednesday night.

I knew Ross County would be a dangerous game – the ones you expect to go and win are always the same. But after the decent performance at Ibrox, to then come out and play so poorly, it's a head scratcher.

They've just got to draw a line under it and move on.

If there is one worry it's the lack of consistency. If you're going to be up there challenging to get into Europe you need to be able to string wins together and Wednesday shows we're not where where we want to be.

I don't think there's a better opportunity to get into third place than this year because the league has fallen apart. There's so many teams beating each other that if you can go on a run you will put yourself in a great position.

I thought the Christmas period was an ideal opportunity for us and we've not managed to take it. There's still a lot of football to be played but we've got to get some consistency into our game because at the moment we just don't know what Hibs team is going to turn up.

The home form is becoming a concern. I don't know if it's just a mental thing, but I can assure you if Hibs fans had been there on Wednesday night they'd have received a lot of criticism. It's maybe the atmosphere that's not helping them. If you've got a good home support behind you it can be so vital. I don't know if that's affecting them but the amount of points being dropped at home is inexcusable. We've got to get over it because I'm a great believer that home form is key to anything. We're a team that can travel well. We're good on the road but at home we don't seem to turn up and play our game.

We need more goals from the middle of the pitch. The players in there at the minute are all similar type of players. At home especially you need goals from all over. Midfield players have got to chip in and we've not got enough in there.

Against Rangers we had three similar types in the middle of the pitch, all holding type players. You can't expect strikers or wide players to score all the time. You've got to get something from the middle of the pitch and we're lacking there. I've felt that for a number of months.

We're good away from home because we can sit there with a sitting midfielder but at home we look as if we don't take enough risks. I don't think that's down to negative tactics, but down to personnel. We need players who can provide more of a goal threat from the middle of the pitch, especially for games like Wednesday night where you need goals, and that has to be a priority in January.

If we're going to get into Europe we've got to start taking risks. If he's got to change the system, I don't know, whatever it may be. But you've got to go and win games, especially against Ross County at home.
