Michael Weir: Time for SPFL to start governing and avoid repeat of Celtic v Hibs fixture fiasco

Clearly Hibs aren’t happy with the confusion surrounding the January fixture against Celtic.

We can’t have people making up their own minds when they want to play a game of football. It’s got to suit everybody, not just one club.

It can’t be right that a decision is made without the opposing club being involved in that discussion. That has to be looked at.

It’s just typical of the way things are going with the SPFL at the moment. Everything seems to be a bit of a mess.

I don't think Hibs are the only team unhappy; I think the whole of Scottish football will be baffled by some of the decisions being made.

Hibs aren’t a one-off case; there’s a lot that doesn't sit right with people and more and more questions are going to be asked about why certain decisions are made.

The rules can’t be changed to suit one team over another. Clubs have to abide by the rules and the SPFL should be making sure clubs do what they want them to do, not what they feel like doing. That's the crux of the matter.

Hibs are quite rightly angry about the situation but I think the whole of Scottish football will be looking at this and thinking something needs to change. All the clubs can't be wrong.

We've already seen some chairmen and chief executives speaking out about certain issues but it seems like the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing.

The SPFL is the league’s governing body: people are looking to them to lead Scottish football and the one thing we don't want is people looking at the Scottish game in a bad light but for the last four or five months, it will have looked a right mess to outsiders. They haven’t put the Scottish game in a good light.

The SPFL should be helping ensure Scottish football is run properly. It’s becoming a bit of an embarrassment to Scottish football.

It just seems to be mistake after mistake, crisis after crisis, and nobody seems to do anything about it.
