One Hibs midfielder set to return at Hamilton - and another has a chance

Hibs’ Alex Gogic should recover from a minor ankle knock in time to force his way into contention for this Saturday’s trip to Hamilton.

Taken off in the recent draw with St Johnstone, the Cypriot midfielder was an unused substitute in the Betfred Cup triumph over Dundee, before injury saw him omitted from the squad for last weekend’s victory over Motherwell.

But it is understood that he is well on the road to full fitness and is expected to be ready to face his former club, provided Hibs manager Jack Ross is willing to rejig his starting line-up against a side operating at the opposite end of the league table.

Brian Rice’s men have won just two of their last 10 Premiership matches, although the most recent victory, against Kilmarnock, elevated them above the relegation and play-off spots and, after a late fightback against Hibs in their October head to head, they were slightly unlucky to leave Easter Road without a share of the spoils.

Hibs, though, recaptured their winning form against Motherwell, after dropping points in four of their previous five league encounters and, as well as Gogic, they could have Kyle Magennis available for selection.

The 22-year-old former St Mirren captain has been recuperating from a troublesome hamstring strain but is nearing a return to competitive action.

There is a hope that he could feature at some stage against Hamilton, although Tuesday night’s Betfred Cup quarter-final, against Alloa, remains a more likely target.

Magennis’ was forced to sit out the whole of November, making his last appearance in the Scottish Cup semi-final loss to Hearts in October.
