The shout came just after the hour mark in Friday’s match when winger Martin Boyle was pushed to the turf and the fury was fuelled by the decision not to award a free-kick minutes later when Matty Kennedy felled the same player on the edge of the area.

“The first one is a penalty and the second is one a free-kick,” said Ross, who insisted he was not trying to deflect attention away from his team’s insipid display.

“I didn’t have a good game and my team didn’t, but Euan didn’t either. They were two big decisions and it was a clear-cut penalty and the second was an easy one to give but he doesn’t. I don’t know why because I never got much of an explanation.”
