'Was he awake when bottles were thrown at Easter Road?' Ex-Celtic star blasts Hibs owner Ron Gordon

Former Celtic star Davie Provan has criticised Hibs owner Ron Gordon for calling for a reintroduction of alcohol at Scottish football games.

The American-based businessman called for the ban to be lifted as he talked to Hibs supporters at the club's AGM this past week.

Alcohol has not been permitted inside Scottish football grounds - unless they're hosting rugby matches - since the early 1980s.

There have been calls for a reintroduction throughout the years, but it doesn't look any closer to happening in 2020.

Provan believes that is for good reason as he derided the Hibs chief in his column for the Scottish Sun.

He wrote: "Is Hibs owner Ron Gordon having a laugh calling for Scottish football’s booze ban to be lifted?

"Was he awake when bottles were thrown at Scott Sinclair and Borna Barisic at Easter Road? Or when James Tavernier was attacked by a halfwit at the same ground?

"Has he forgotten the Hampden carnage after Hibs’ Scottish Cup win of 2016?

"Of the alcohol restriction Gordon says: “It’s essentially a penalty on football.”

"No it’s not Ron, it’s a penalty on drunken eejits who want to assault footballers. Screwtops and Scottish football don’t belong together."
