An investigation is underway after £37,000 of public money was allocated towards a new car park in Bonnyrigg - with the site resembling a “disaster” more than two years later.
It is claimed Midlothian Council’s Gourlaw Coal Regeneration Fund - which gives cash to projects in communities with drift mines - awarded the money to Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic Junior Football Club.
The funds would be used to turn part of the club’s ground in to a car park, which would be used by football fans on match days and by members of the public at other times.
The situation was revealed at a recent meeting of Bonnyrigg and Lasswade Community Council.
The group said they had received an e-mail from the chairman of Poltonhall and District Community Council, Keith Fuller, alerting them to the matter.
