As the season nears its conclusion, midweek football becomes a more common occurrence as teams look to honour all their fixtures.
Musselburgh arrived at New Victoria Park last Wednesday (April 22) for this East of Scotland Cup tie, on the back of a 5-4 aggregate Scottish Junior Cup semi-final win over Linlithgow Rose on Saturday, looking to advance in another competition with a win over fellow Super League team and local opponent Newtongrange Star.
Both managers were confident of a victory and the home side started the better of the exchanges in the opening 20 minutes.
Shaun Jamieson set up striker Kris Renton for a couple of chances from which he was unlucky not to score.
Top scorer for Musselburgh, Jordyn Sheerin was also causing problems to the Newtongrange defence and he was to find the net for the 36th time this season on 25 minutes.
Musselburgh were awarded a free kick 25 yards out from goal and Sheerin struck it with precision and poise into the top corner for a lead which, at that time, was against the run of play.
