Newtongrange Star were forced to settle for a point last Saturday despite dominating proceedings for long spells at a sunny Prestonfield.
The visitors started strongly and Sean Jamieson fired just wide in the third minute, before Keiron Renton did well to push away a fierce drive by MacLennan for the home side.
The Star went ahead in the tenth minute when a corner kick fell to Davie Dunn and the big centre-half did well to find Jordan Cropley who rifled the ball low past Rose goalkeeper Christie to make it 1-0 to Alan Miller’s side .
Star keeper Renton produced another fine stop to deny Rose’s Batchelor before Cropley missed a golden opportunity to double his tally. The hosts came very close to squaring the match just before the break when MacLennan volleyed against the back post from close range. Cropley fired an excellent drive from distance just over the bar in the 54th minute before Jamieson wasted another huge chance seconds later when he ran in on goal unchallenged but could only lob the ball into the grateful arms of Christie with the goal gaping!
