Leith Athletic 4 - 1 Hawick Royal Albert: Athletic on track with convincing win

LEITH ATHLETIC bounced back to winning ways on Saturday with a convincing victory over Borders side Hawick.

Kyle Boggie put the home side in front on the half-hour mark when he got on the end of a long ball and his first time shot nestled low in the corner, leaving Ross Taylor in the Hawick goal with no chance. Taylor was kept busy in the Hawick goal and pulled off some superb saves to keep Hawick in the game but with the pressure from Leith it was only a matter of time before they doubled their lead. They did so when a ball was whipped in and Craig Hume broke away from the defender and headed home from close range.

Lewis Tracey almost got on the score sheet just before the break when he picked up on a slack clearance and his powerful shot from long range had the keeper beat but crashed of the woodwork before the danger was cleared.

Leith had several chances to get a third and in a ten minute spell they hit the woodwork five times, the best of these chances falling to Chris Beaton who hit the woodwork from close range following a goal mouth scramble. Neil Lowson was next on the score sheet for Leith when he was allowed space in the box and when a corner was played in he headed home from close range. Bobby Nwanze got a consolation for Hawick near the death but any hopes of a comeback were dashed when Leith got their fourth goal, Beaton’s shot nestling low in the corner.

After the game Leith manager Derek Riddell said “It was a good result for us. I asked the lads to go out and put in a good performance and they did that.”
