Livi punish ten men of Dunfermline

Goals from Jesus Garcia Tena and Danny Mullen – their first strikes for the club respectively – saw the Lions defeat Jim 
Jefferies’ men 2-1, with Andy Barrowman getting a stoppage-time consolation goal from the spot.

Livi failed to beat ten-man opposition on more than one occasion last campaign, but this time, after Calum Morris was sent off for a lunge on Scougall after 19 minutes, the side secured the three points.

Scougall says that shows the team is always learning and improving, as manager Gareth Evans made it two home wins from two in the league.

The midfielder said: “It was a great win – we kind of owed them one from the last time we played and lost 4-0 so it was great to get a good win over a side challenging for the title.

“We’ve definitely learned about using the space out wide against ten men and we have learned our lesson from last season. It’s always hard to play against ten men because teams sit in and it’s tight for space, but this one was quite end-to-end, and it was a good game to play in.”

The encounter came to life when Scougall burst free from the Dunfermline defence but was taken out by a swipe from Morris on the edge of the box

Referee John Beaton flashed a red card and Liam Fox hit the bar from the resulting free kick, while at the other end Barrowman slid the ball wide from ten yards.

Marc McNulty then contrived to miss the best chance of the half on 35 minutes, as he muscled into the box and rounded keeper Michal Hrivnak only to hit the bar from five yards.

The Lions took the lead on 65 minutes when Tena collected the ball 30 yards out and launched a thunderous shot that flew past Hrivnak.

The home side secured the points with two minutes to go when Keaghan Jacobs teed up Mullen in the six-yard box, and despite Barrowman’s penalty consolation and a resultant red card for Craig Barr, the win was secured.
