Newtongrange Star were last night (Wednesday) bidding to reach the 2011 final of the Dechmont South League Cup in a tough tie away to unbeaten Sauchie, who gave Penicuik Athletic their first defeat of the season in the Premier League on Saturday.

There were no winners among Midlothian’s junior clubs on Saturday, with draws for Arniston against local derby rivals Newtongrange and also Bonnyrigg, but defeats for Dalkeith Thistle and Penicuik.

Super League’s Bonnyrigg Rose visit Carmuirs Park this weekend to tackle Camelon Juniors, where the Rose won 3-1 last season.

Out of Midlothian’s three Premier League sides – Arniston, Penicuik and Newtongrange – only Arniston are away on their travels this Saturday, as they visit Broughty Athletic, while Penicuik return to Penicuik Park to welcome Premier League newcomers Dundee Downfield, who have lost their two opening league games. Newtongrange Star will be at home to face Tayport .

In the East Region South League, Dalkeith Thistle lost 3-2 to Whitburn Juniors at King’s Park, while this Saturday, the Jags are away to Dunbar United.
