Newtongrange skipper wants to take good form into next season

Despite Newtongrange's excellent form continuing with a 6-1 rout of Camelon, it was a bittersweet victory for captain Blair Tolmie.

Star eased to all three points thanks to a hat-trick from Jack Wilson, a double from Jordan Cropley and a goal from Tolmie himself.

Tolmie said: “In the last couple of seasons, we have been flying at the top then suffered a loss of form and the season’s ended in disappointment. This year, we had a poor start but now we are playing some of the best football since I came here five years ago. This is the form we wanted last year but that’s football for you.

“Now we’re looking to continue this form because we’re still in the East of Scotland Cup and it would give the squad a lift for next season if we could get our hands on silverware this year.”

The hosts took the lead after 35 minutes when Wilson finished off a great move down the right. Their lead lasted only a couple of minutes, however, as Camelon’s David Grant knocked the ball home at the back post. But Wilson scored his second just before the break with the linesman ruling his effort had crossed the line.

Star killed the game off with three goals in a five-minute spell, starting with Cropley’s magical chip in 50 minutes followed by a header from Tolmie. The penultimate goal of the afternoon saw Wilson complete his hat-trick, lashing the ball home off the underside of the crossbar.

The referee was on the brink of blowing for full time but Cropley picked up a loose clearance and slammed home a sixth.
