Paget happy as Whitehill go through

Whitehill WELFARE football club manager Rab Paget was delighted his team tied up a place in the latter stages of the East of Scotland Qualifying League Cup with a convincing 2-0 victory over Preston Athletic.

Paget said: “I felt we controlled the game tonight and we were never really under any severe pressure. I am delighted we have qualified for the League Cup. The boys played well tonight. I will be glad when the midweek games are over as they are taking their toll on the team.”

Whitehill took the lead early on when Aaron Somerville headed into the back of the net.

Preston could have levelled just after the interval when Bryan Wilson hit the woodwork and even more unlucky was the fact that Wilson was carried off after injuring himself whilst taking the shot.

Wayne McIntosh came off the bench and put the game beyond Preston when he beat the offside trap and placed a shot low past the keeper.

After the game, Preston manager Steve Myatt said: “It’s never good to get beaten but I felt we held our own in stages during the game and we did play some decent football but we just couldn’t get a goal.”
