Paget prepares Whitehill for testing time with University

The challenge to last season’s Central Taxis Premier Division champions, Spartans, could easily come from Whitehill Welfare whose manager Rab Paget has assembled a group of talented players.

Tonight, Whitehill will be tested against an Edinburgh University side who held them to a 0-0 draw in their League Cup sectional tie only two weeks ago. Patty Bonthrone and Wayne McIntosh have settled in well for Whitehill while the University have yet to field a full-strength side and they were dealt another blow at the weekend when striker Jack Beacher went off injured and is doubtful for tonight’s encounter at Peffermill, kick-off 6.45 pm. Edinburgh City and Stirling University are two other clubs who should be challenging for the Premier Division title and they meet at Meadowbank Stadium, kick-off 7.45 pm. Lothian Thistle are at Saughton Enclosure and they will face a stern test against last season’s First Division champions, Gretna 2008. In the Borders, Vale of Leithen await Selkirk.

In the First Division, Craigroyston travel to meet Ormiston with manager George Bowmaker insisting that their season begins in earnest tonight. “Promotion is our sole aim this season,” stressed Bowmaker.

Coldstream face Gala Fairydean and Kelso United have Hawick Royal Albert as visitors.
