Penicuik teenager Lucy Smith has been called up for Scotland Under-16s to take on Germany, Spain and Holland this month.
The 15-year-old will represent her country at the UEFA Women’s Under-16 Development Tournament in Algarve, Portugal from February 18 to 24.
The Hearts midfielder is delighted with her first call-up.
She said: “It’s really good, I wasn’t expecting it so I’m excited. I was just coming home from school when my mum phoned me to say ‘did you hear the news? You are going to Portugal!’ It was great.
“I have been to two camps with the national team. There are about 30 players, with 20 of them picked for the squad. But this will be my first caps.
“I think Spain will be really good. At the recent camp, from which I was picked, we had lots of meetings about how Holland, Spain and Germany will play. It was quite detailed, so we are well prepared.”
