Playing Hibs is dream come true for Edinburgh City's Caddow

The long-serving right back won promotion to the SPFL with City in May, and was at Hampden to witness his ‘other’ team make history as well, ending their wait of 114 years to lift the Scottish Cup which will be paraded at Meadowbank before kick-off.

Tonight’s fixture will complete a dream trilogy of games for Caddow, but the best is yet to come with partner Emma due to give birth to the couple’s first child next week. Caddow’s excitement is palpable. “I cannot wait,” he enthused. “I’ve never been more excited for a game in all my days, being a Hibs fan myself. I was at the cup final and it was just surreal, a great, great day.

“I remember coming close [to playing Hibs] when we played Montrose in the Scottish Cup. The game was called off and then the draw for the next round was made and it was Hibs at Easter Road. I thought it would never come around again, but to get it after Hibs have broken that Scottish Cup duck is just unreal. It’s fairytale stuff – I still have to pinch myself.

“It’s being part of Scottish football history – you’ve done it with the team you play for, you’ve seen it watching the team you support and you get to live out another wee dream playing against them.”

The 32-year-old is hoping baby Caddow doesn’t decide to come early “My lovely girl is about to give birth to our first child and the due date is Monday,” he explained. “She’s coming to the game so I’m praying she doesn’t go in to labour whilst watching – I’ll be straight off the park!

“I knew she was due around the 11th, and when she had her baby shower I had to guess the date of when the baby would be born. This was before the Hibs game had been arranged, and I put down Thursday, July 7. It then got announced and I was like ‘you’re kidding me on?’ but I can’t wait to be a dad. It’ll be the best day of my life.”
