Although news of his departure has yet to be confirmed by anyone at the Championship side, it has been reported that McCoist has asked the Rangers board that he is allowed to step down. However, he is expected to be in charge tonight against Queen of the South, as it is unclear as to when he will leave the club.

Rangers are currently second in the league, nine points behind leaders Hearts and ten points clear of fourth-placed Hibs.

McCoist has been under constant pressure this season after falling behind Hearts in the title race and a shock Petrofac Training Cup semi-final defeat by Alloa last week.
