Spence to the fore as Locos steam through into the third round

After the home side failed to clear from their own territory, the ball fell kindly to James Spence, who finished clinically into the corner from just inside the penalty area.

It didn’t take long for Loco to add a second. Spence’s surging run took him through at an angle before he cut the ball back to team-mate Craig Graham, who netted from eight yards.

Shaun Dunn almost made it three when his strike went narrowly wide after good build-up by Ryan Mullen.

Graham certainly should have added a third after being put through on goal, but the striker knocked the ball wide with the goal at his mercy.

Scott Riddell’s precise pass then presented Dunn with a clear view of the target, and with Icapb goalkeeper James Douglas a couple of yards off his line, Dunn was unlucky to see his attempted lob come back off the top of the crossbar.

Six minutes into the second half, the visitors killed off any hope Icapb may have had of getting themselves back into contention by adding a third.

Raymond Singleton picked out David Warnock, who cleverly turned his marker and found the far corner of the net with a neat finish.

Icapb almost reduced the deficit shortly after, Anthony Black’s 20 yard free-kick 
clipping the top of the crossbar on its way over.

Douglas produced an outstanding save to keep Loco at bay when he somehow got his fingertips to Kevin Dunn’s deflected drive from distance.

Loco, however, did add a fourth in the final minute when Douglas parried Riddell’s strike into the path of Spence, who was composed enough to pick out Danny Waddell and the No. 12 had the simplest of tasks in rolling the ball into the net.

Loco’s player/coach Kevin Dunn was pleased with the level of his side’s performance.

He said: “I was delighted with the performance from the guys. It’s all about trying to play football and pass the ball about and we managed to do that.”

Sporting Icapb’s Anthony Black, on the other hand, wasn’t so positive.

Black said: “It’s a disappointing result. We were missing a few players with injuries and guys away on holiday but they were far better than us. It could have been a lot more.”
