Bonnyrigg kept focussed on the league title with their 13th win of the season.
The only disappointment being the late straight red card for sub Lewis Turner.
Both teams enjoyed good spells of first half possession with the first opportunity falling to Wayne McIntosh who headed over the bar.
On 11 minutes a free kick from long range from Steven McNally fully tested Rose keeper Mike Andrews.
Then in 18 minutes a cracking shot from Ruaridh Donaldson was blocked by United keeper Mark Fotheringham.
This signalled a better spell of play from the hosts while at the other end keeper Andrews was to keep a clean sheet.
The deadlock was finally broken in 23 minutes when an Adam Nelson free kick found a glancing header from Wayne McIntosh hit the net.
Next a scramble in the visiting penalty area saw a goalline clearance, then the ball hit the post and finally was scrambled out for a fruitless corner.
Dean Hoskins finished the half with a stunning free kick equally well saved by the Lochee keeper only for Donaldson to send the rebound over the bar leaving the Rose just one goal ahead at the break.
In the very first minute of the second half Alan Horne with an excellent chance instead put the ball over the bar.
Bonnyrigg were retaining vast amounts of possession but the second goal finally came in 61 minutes when a kick out by keeper Andrews evaded everyone to allow Kieran McGachie to race through and beat Fotheringham to the ball and net a fine opportunist strike.
Midway through the half it was 3-0 following good work by Brown and Donaldson who set up Wayne McIntosh to score his own second at the far post.
Lochee finished the game with 10 men after Steven McNally was taken off injured having used all three subs.
Bonnyrigg: Andrews, Brown, Hoskins, Young, Moyes, Stewart, McIntosh, Horne, McGachie, Nelson, Donaldson. Subs: Kidd, Turner, Gray, Jamieson, Archibald.
