Fraser McLeod bouncing all the way to Euros after British title success

The Musselburgh Grammar pupil has been in a rich vein of form this year and will travel to Eastern Europe in high spirits following his performance at the British Gymnastic Trampolining Championships at Liverpool’s Echo Arena earlier this month.

Having won gold in the 13-14 elite boys category at last year’s event, Fraser retained his title with a personal best score of 131.600. DMT involves running at a giant trampette and performing two gymnastic skills before landing in a matted landing area.

Fraser, 13, said: “I’m going to Belgium to compete in the Antwerp Cup in September before Slovenia. It’s my first time in both competitions so I’m pretty nervous. But I’ve been to all the camps so far and got picked so I think I’m ready. I’ve had a really good year winning some big competitions so hopefully I can do well over there.

“I’ll be watching the gymnastics and the trampolining at the Olympics to see what they’re doing first. The Olympics is also something I want to compete at when I’m a bit older.”

Fraser has become accustomed to winning gold but revealed he nearly had to settle for silver down in Merseyside at the recent British Championships.

“I had four runs and just managed to get into first place on my last one so that was perfect timing,” he said.

“I was nervous because the boys I was competing against were all a bit bigger and have won a lot of titles. But I feel I am the best in Britain because I’ve been working really hard and getting good scores.”
