Golf: Gallagher follows the leader
The former Scottish Amateur champion opened his title bid in the £10,000 event with a one-under-par 71. It put him in a tie for second, two shots behind leader Greig Hutcheon from Banchory.
With a £4,000 first prize up for grabs, Hutcheon, the 2010 Tartan Tour No.1, bagged five birdies in his opening effort, but both Gallagher and Chris Currie, who ended last year by giving a good account of himself in the Gleneagles Scottish PGA Championship, were still in touch with a round to go. So too was Duddingston’s James McGhee after his opening 73.

Dunbar’s Neil Fenwick was further down the field after a 77, while Mark Kerr opened with a nightmare 82.
