Golf: Kilspindie progress in Winter Cup

KILSPINDIE won a titanic struggle with Haddington to reach the second round in this year’s East Lothian Winter Cup.

Making home advantage count, Kilspindie won two games that went to extra holes to record a 3-2 victory. The
veteran pairing of Bob Humble and John Hall emerged as the heroes, the latter holing a tricky downhill putt for a winning birdie on the 23rd.

Dunbar’s miserable recent
form continued with a 4-1 defeat at Castle Park, but
Craigielaw were untroubled by their trip to Musselburgh Old, whilst North Berwick, Gullane and Royal Musselburgh all
progressed against Second
Division opponents.

In the only all-First Division clash, Musselburgh chalked up a second victory in as many weeks against Longniddry. The quarter-finals take place on February 3, when Royal Musselburgh host Kilpsindie, Castle Park travel to Musselburgh and Gullane go to Craigielaw.

North Berwick will take on
either Tantallon or Thorntree in the remaining tie.
