Golf: Robertson’s rain dance at Monktonhall

GREENSTAFF and officials worked wonders to get a rain-hit South East District Open finished at Monktonhall.

The event was reduced to 36 holes after Saturday’s play was washed out completely and it was a battle at times to keep play in progress yesterday. But, to the delight of Stirling University student Graeme Robertson, the two rounds were completed. He shot rounds of 72 and 69 for a one-under total and a two-shot win over Adam Dunton (McDonald Ellon) and Eamon Bradley (Mount Ellen).

It was Robertson’s first victory in an SGU Order of Merit event after he’d come close on several occasions this year.

Three Lothians players – Stephen Neilson (Dunbar), Cameron Marr (Musselburgh) and Lewis Bain (Turnhouse) – finished in a tie for fourth on 146 alongside former Amateur champion Craig Watson. It was an excellent effort from Bain, this year’s Lothians Boys’ champion, who shot 76 and 70.
