Henderson has snow regrets

EDINBURGH alpine skier Paul Henderson insists he will leave Austria with no regrets despite failing to record a time in the three of his four events at the Winter Youth Olympics.

Henderson’s campaign in Innsbruck got off to an impressive start with the 17-year-old battling his way to a 17th-place finish in the Super G last weekend. Three subsequent failures in the Giant Slalom, Super Combined and his preferred Slalom on Saturday morning, though, ruled Henderson out of overall contention.

Conditions for the Slalom on Saturday were testing with heavy snow falling however he had looked on course for a strong time until missing the tenth gate from the finish. But, despite the disappointment, the Stewart’s Melville pupil admitted he will return to the UK a better skier for the experience out in Austria.

“I’m disappointed about the slalom as it was the last race and I was going really well but about ten gates from the finish I just got caught and fired off the course,” said Henderson. “I was pretty angry at the end of the race but these things happen and I can’t change it now. I gave it everything I had, I was right on the edge and I have no regrets.”
