Sam Judge scored four goals for Edinburgh University

The former Scottish internationalist claimed all four goals as the students eased to a 4-2 Scottish Cup victory over arch-rivals Grove Menzieshill.

Judge, who recently led her team to the Division title, said: “We trained well all week and we were confident despite not having beaten Grove this season.”

Meanwhile, University men’s coach Graham Moodie conceded that Bromac Kelburne were the better side in their Scottish Cup Final. Moodie’s squad were second best, going down 4-1 on Saturday. It’s the second year in a row in which the students have been bridesmaids having lost 5-1 to city rivals Grange in the previous campaign.

Moodie’s men were overpowered by the newly-crowned Division One winners, who cruised to a 3-0 lead in the first 25 minutes and never looked back. Dan Coultas scored the students’ consolation after 46 minutes to make the scoreline 4-1. Edinburgh, who started brightly, did not recover from losing a scrappy goal to Ben Peterson after six minutes. Ross McPherson scored six minutes later and Peterson netted his second after 25 minutes.

A strike by the outstanding Lee Morton completed Kelburne’s scoring after 44 minutes.

Moodie said: “They were the better team. Praise to my guys who kept going but we made mistakes and you can’t do that against a team like that (Kelburne).”

In the District Plate, Rory MacDougall scored to level the final at 4-4 as Inverleith 2s took the silverware on penalties when MacDougall and Paul Taylor scored to beat Anchor.

Edinburgh University 3s won the Reserve Plate with a 4-1 win over Kelburne 3s with Will Baker, Hugo Howarth, Harvey Wood and Henry Allen scoring.

In the Reserve Cup, Grange 3s won 4-1, beating Grange 5s 4-1 with goals from Gordon Allan, Harry Templeton, Tom Weavers and Steve Swanton. Mike White netted for Grange 5s.
