Hockey: Scots coach quits

Scotland are looking for a new senior men’s hockey coach after the shock resignation of Englishman Russell Garcia.

The former Olympic gold medallist quit after the failure of the men’s team to earn promotion from EuroHockey Championship II. They earned a bronze medal beating Austria 4-3 in Sunday’s final in the Ukraine but this was a major disappointment.

Garcia will return to living permanently in Germany and focus on his family life outside of the sport.

Callum McLeod, Scottish Hockey performance manager, said: “With the Commonwealth Games now less than three years away, our focus will turn to recruiting a new head coach who will build on the foundation Russell has set in place.”
