Hoy hits out at GB’s team sprint rivals

Sir CHRIS HOY has taken aim at his squad’s biggest rivals for Olympic team sprint gold, accusing them of underhand tactics.

The Capital star will link up with Jason Kenny and Philip Hindes next Thursday to defend the title Great Britain won four years ago.

Changes to the rules have
limited the number of riders that may be selected for track races, but a loophole means that Germany and France have named track sprinters in their squads for the road race and mountain bike events, meaning they are also entitled to
compete in the velodrome.

“The Germans and the French have found a way around that to get an extra rider into their squads so they can substitute people in and out, which has made a bit of a mockery of the UCI rulings. But that’s life”, he said.

And admitting that the ploy could influence the outcome of the event, he added, “There might be a surprise but really it’s between Germany, France, Australia and ourselves. It’s going to be very, very close but we’re going to be at our best since Beijing.”

Hoy’s first involvement in the Games will be to carry the flag in tonight’s opening ceremony.
