Capitals’ former Chicago Blackhawks forward Pavel Vorobyev was the only scorer in the shoot-out, goalie Travis Fullerton the hero saving all three Stars attempts, plus an additional effort awarded in overtime after Matt Tipoff had hauled down Justin Faryna.

Stars opened the scoring through Faryna in the seventh minute, Vorobyev with his first goal since the 2nd of January tying things up three minutes later.

In a scrappy game, Stars took the lead for a second time, top-scorer Vinny Scarsella with a power-play goal in the 25th minute. With only 41 seconds of the second period remaining Edinburgh drew level once again, through Garrett Milan with a sweetly struck one-timer from the top of the circle.

The quality of hockey improved in the third period, but both goalies stood tall to ensure the teams were rewarded with at least a point for their efforts with Capitals killing a penalty in the final two minutes of the match after Taylor MacDougall had been called for hooking.

Edinburgh are next in action on Tuesday night, away to Coventry, in what is sure to be another pivotal battle in this season’s play-off race.
