Kelly’s helping hand for Lasswade athlete Ross

‘Future Stars with Kelly’ athlete Ross Matheson – from Lasswade Athletics Club – is looking forward to an exciting summer on the track.

Ross started 2012 with an action packed Aviva-sponsored ‘On Camp with Kelly’ Get-Together, benefiting from some valuable advice from double Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes.

Twenty-two athletes and some of their coaches including Ross’s coach David Campbell, took part in the event at Tonbridge in January.

Nineteen-year-old Ross took part in a weekend of intensive training including circuit training, aqua-jogging and Pilates and a running session on the hills of Knole Park in Sevenoaks, where Dame Kelly used to train.

However it wasn’t all physical; Dame Kelly also timetabled in a UK Anti-Doping workshop and a goal-setting session with Sport Psychologist Dr Anna Waters.

The athletes were able to set out personal goals for the year and reflect on 2011, focusing on both the successes and where there could be room for improvement.

Ross, who was invited to the event by Dame Kelly after taking part in her ‘Future Stars with Kelly’ initiative for English Schools medalists, said: “My goal for the year is to perform well at the British Universities Championships at the Olympic Stadium in May, and at the Scottish Senior Championships.”
