Midlothian clubs set for cup action

THE draw made last week in Glasgow for this weekend’s Emirates Scottish Junior Cup third round ties was not too kind to Midlothian clubs with only one home tie out of three but it’s “the Match of the Day” at New Dundas Park where East Super League leaders Bonnyrigg Rose entertain West Super League Clydebank.

And last Saturday it was the perfect boost for Bonnyrigg to resume pole position in the top league with a home 3-1 win over Linlithgow Rose.

Stevie Osbourne’s Arniston Rangers enjoyed a 3-0 success in the second round to Banchory St.Ternan’s. This Saturday Arniston are away to Stonehouse Violet of the Central District League Division Two and Arniston have positive memories of a 4-0 win there in the Scottish Cup some seven years ago.

Of all the Scottish Junior Cup ties that you would wish to avoid is a visit to cup holders Auchinleck Talbot but that’s where Penicuik Athletic go on Saturday. Auchinleck beat Musselburgh to scoop the cup final in May when Penicuik took a first round exit to Kilwinning Rangers .

Meanwhile Newtongrange Star and Dalkeith Thistle feature in Premier and South League action.
