Midlothian Juniors shape up for season

Junior footballers seeking to get in shape for the fast approaching competitive 2011/2012 football fixtures face a number of pre-season friendlies to whet theirs and the spectators’ appetites, writes Striker.

The season kicks off early next month with a new format for the League Cup competition.

Setting the ball rolling this Saturday are Newtongrange Star who are away to Heriot Watt at Riccarton for a 2.30pm kick-off while Penicuik Park will host a challenge match between Penicuik Athletic and a Rangers U-19 squad (kick-off 2.30pm).

Midweek, Newtongrange will be at home for the first time after the close season break with a 7.30pm kick-off on Tuesday July 19 against East Stirling.

On the same evening, Dalkeith Thistle will be at home at King’s Park to welcome East of Scotland League side East Lothian’s Preston Athletic.

Meanwhile, also on Tuesday July 19 Edinburgh University will be heading to Newbyres Park, Gorebridge, to face Premier League outfit Arniston Rangers with a 7pm start there.
