Their fifth win from five games in the battle for a play-off spot came courtesy of a 91-80 success over East Lothian.

Wins on the rinks skipped by Stacey McDougall and Annie Rutherford combined to put a plus of 34 into the Midlothian shot-margin bank and that was the decisive factor in dwarfing the 23-shot setback suffered by Shona Johnstone and Sandra McLeish.

East Lothian edged the first seven ends 34-29 and put up a strong show in their 25-24 loss of the second.

The game-changing swing in Midlothian’s favour came as McDougall whipped up a finishing run of 2, 1, 1, 3, 2, 3, 4 as she and her front three of Lorna Goldsmith, Alison Plenderleith and May Brownlee stormed to a 32-8 win against Beth Riva, Muriel Hamilton, Irene Gray and Margaret Thomson. Rutherford came good with a 13-1 acceleration over the final six ends to skip Dorothy Millar, Charlene Williamson and Annette Wilson to a 26-18 win over Yvonne Veitch. Johnstone lost a five at the last in a 28-16 defeat from Emma Logan while McLeish was outgunned 28-17 by Lauren Baillie.

Meanwhile, Balbardie suffered an 80-68 defeat at home to East Fife.

League table: Midlothian 10; East Lothian 6; East Fife 6; Balbardie 2; Abbeyview 0.
