New 800 metre indoor British Champion Guy Learmonth has paid tribute to his Midlothian club as he prepares to take on Europe’s best.

Twenty-two-year-old Learmonth won the title recently in Sheffield, leading from start to finish and holding off a late challenge to win in one minute 49 seconds exactly.

After the race he sent this message to Lasswade Athletics Club: “Thanks again for all your support and it was amazing becoming British Champ in the Lasswade colours!”

One week after being crowned British Champion, Learmonth was back in action and booked his place for the European Indoor Championships in Prague this weekend.

Running at the Indoor Grand Prix in Birmingham, Guy bettered the qualifying standard of 1:48 and set an indoor personal best of 1:47.38 in the process.
