Lasswade Athletics Club’s success in producing talented young international athletes has continued, with Amy Frankland gaining selection for the Scottish Cross Country team for the Celtic Nations match, held in Cardiff last month.
Sixteen year old Amy, from Dalkeith, earned her selection by performing consistently at a high level over the winter in the East District Cross Country League, finishing in the top three in the under 17 Women age group in all races. Amy also won the silver medal in the U17 Women’s race at the East District Cross Country Championships in December.
In the international match at Cardiff, Amy finished 12th in the Celtic Nations match, and 15th overall in a time of 19mins 1s.
Meanwhile two of the club’s senior athletes were competing in the recent Indoor Classic match in Vienna, Austria. 800m runner Guy Learmonth ran a season’s best of 1.47.94 as he finished third, a time which is inside the 1.48 British Athletics qualifying standard for the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg in March. Team mate Greg Louden set a new indoor PB over 400m, running 48.85s.
These results along with the club’s U20 Women’s team qualifying for the Scottish Indoor League finals at the Emirates Commonwealth Arena later this month, means that it has been a promising start to 2013 for the Midlothian club.
