Club gears up for season

Penicuik Cricket Club has secured the services of former Scottish Saltire and Kent County Cricketer Dewald Nel as club coach for the season.

He will run sessions on Tuesday nights. Club captain Kris Steel told a recent players’ meeting: “We believe passionately in developing our own players. I am convinced that Dewald will have a considerable impact on not only first team players but the playing standards in the club as a whole.”

Martin Juson was introduced as 2nd XI captain, Dave Clements as Sunday development XI co-ordiantor; Dave will also be heading-up the club’s fundraising sub-committee and has already been successful in obtaining an Awards For All grant.

Neil Cameron is the club’s new cricket development officer and will also be 2nd XI vice captain and chairing the resurrected cricket committee.

Diary dates: Tuesdays and Thursdays 6.15 – 8.30 club training, principally for senior club members or those playing 1st/2nd/Sunday senior cricket; Fridays 6.30 – 8.30 junior club training for beginners, soft ball and u-13/15 cricketers mainly; Saturday, April 13, junior training at Beeslack Community High School tennis courts 2.30-4.30 (£2 per head to cover costs); Friday, April 19, parents’ evening and junior club training, 6.30.
