Dunbar travelled to Dalkeith for this East Region Division 1 match extremely confident having been crowned Division 2 Champions last season.
Dalkeith eventually scored out wide as several tackles were brushed off by the big left wing. Dunbar gradually started to make ground and were unlucky not to score as Ally Brown was bundled into touch five metres out.
Dunbar were awarded a penalty after Jamie Peters was kneed in the lower back. The referee took no further action against the home No 8. Peters tried to carry on but was replaced by Ross Charlton.
Dalkeith were looking dangerous through the middle with both centres looking sharp. The Dalkeith centre partnership stripped the defence bare before releasing their full back to score.
The same player converting his own try to extend the lead to 12 points. Dunbar were on the attack again and tested the home defence which stood up to everything thrown at them.
Eventually the home side conceded a penalty which Kieran Donnellan converted on 34 minutes.
