Dalkeith’s unbeaten record in East League 1 came to an end in a closely fought match against Linlithgow last Saturday.
In a vastly changed side, the Dalkeith pack was several stones heavier than their opposition, yet when Dalkeith’s poor passing gifted the home XV possession, No8 Martin picked up, drove through the tackles and scored the opening try. Linlithgow failed to convert.
Dalkeith responded immediately. Andrews secured the line-out ball and the forwards drove forward until Linlithgow were penalised at the tackle. Clugston’s successful conversion attempt made the score 5-3.
Dalkeith decided to rely on their heavier pack wearing down their lighter opponents. Linlithgow defended admirably until their opponent’s back line set off on a move which ended up with Reid powering under the posts. Clugston made it two out of two to take Dalkeith’s score to 10-5.
