Lasswade 12 Marr 82
This BT Cup first round tie was always going to be a difficult match for Lasswade, having been drawn to host National Division 1 leaders, Troon-based Marr RFC.
Having seven regular members of the first fifteen squad, mostly backs, away supporting Scotland in Leeds made a defeat almost inevitable.
The Marr backline proved far too slick, slippery and speedy for the home defence and the backs ran in 6 tries during the first forty minutes all converted by Marr’s No 10, Sturgeon. Lasswade managed just one interruption when Lamond finished off a catch and drive at the end of the first quarter, converted by White.
The second half continued in much the same vein except that the forwards broke the backs scoring monopoly and grabbed four of the six tries. Sturgeon missed just one of the conversions.
Lasswade did manage the last word when a period of pressure in the Marr 22 and set up several rucks on the line from one of which Mark Billingham was able to force his way over.
It’s back to League business this Saturday and Lasswade will want to be full strength and in top form for the home leg of the local derby against Preston Lodge who are three wins from four and sit fourth in the table. Kick off 3pm.
