A husband and wife from Midlothian both won medals at the British Indoor Rowing Championships held recently in Cardiff.
Victor Gilbert (76) came first in the men’s 75-79 year age group for 2000 metres, while his wife Lolit Janet Gilbert (62) took second place in the Women’s 60-64 year age group for 2000 metres, knocking 15 seconds of her personal best.
Victor began indoor rowing at Mayfield Leisure Centre 11 years ago, they now both train at Newtongrange Leisure Centre.
Victor, who trains four to five times a week despite suffering from Osteoarthritis, was delighted with their success in Cardiff.
He said: “It was wonderful to win gold, and also great my wife won the silver.
“I had an operation on my knee this year and take anti-inflammatories, so to succeed is quite hard as I can’t always train due to the pain.
“It’s been quite a journey, but this was a great reward for the hard work.”
