Coaches, players and parents turned out at Lasswade Rugby Club to celebrate the club becoming the fourth Positive Coaching Scotland accredited club.
The Positive Coaching Scotland programme in association with The Bill McLaren Foundation operates as a partnership between sportscotland, the Winning Scotland Foundation, the Bill McLaren Foundation and Scottish Rugby. Its main aims are to build and sustain a strong and positive rugby culture in order to develop young rugby players and young people through sport
Over the past few months the club has been working on developing a coaching philosophy that ‘promotes effort over ability’ and ‘instils an attitude of continuous improvement throughout the club.’ This is encompassed in a mission statement that aims to create a positive experience for everyone involved at Hawthorndon.
Club President, Ian Barr, said: “I’m delighted that we’re now accredited. It’s a result of a lot of hard work by coaches and the committee and it shows we’re a positive and forward thinking club.
“We’re striving to provide an all inclusive environment which will allow players, coaches, volunteers and spectators to develop and improve their outlook on rugby and the PCS accreditation will definitely help us promote our key values which include respect, club unity, community focus, rugby for all and continuous improvement.”
Tommy Boyle from Winning Scotland Foundation said: “On behalf of the Winning Scotland Foundation I would like to congratulate Lasswade on achieving their Bill McLaren PCS accreditation.
“It’s a great reflection of the leadership within the club that they have developed a mission, values and coaching philosophy which are being embedded throughout the club.
“It’s especially impressive to see such a strong involvement from the parents within the club. Parents are the greatest role models in their child’s lives and Bill McLaren would have been very impressed to see so many of them supporting the accreditation process.”
