Murrayfield secure title

MURRAYFIELD are the new Edinburgh Junior Golf League champions after beating Liberton, winners for the last two years, in the final at Prestonfield.

It ended 4.5-2.5, with Calum Burgess, Scott Speakman, John Butler and Cameron Blair delivering the all-important wins for the East Lothian club. Fraser Christie and Alan MacLaren replied for Liberton, with the halved match involving Daniel Eardley and Lewis Bain. “Both teams played well but, on the day, Musselburgh were sharper,” said Liberton junior convenor Robert Ross.

The defeat ended Liberton’s record of going three seasons without a defeat in the event, but Ross said of that: “It was a remarkable run, especially when there are only around 30 juniors in the club.”

In the play-off for third place, Dalmahoy beat Silverknowes.
