Musselburgh tips: Imperial Legend has it ...

Imperial Legend looked an unlucky loser when well supported at Beverley last week and can recoup the losses at Musselburgh tomorrow.

Punters will need to exercise patience as the gelding does not line up until the seventh race, the final event on the card, the Play Slots at 188bet casino Handicap (5.00), but the wait should be worthwhile.

The nine-year-old was backed from 9-1 in to 6-1 last week, but missed the break. Soon with the leaders, he nosed ahead inside the final furlong, but was headed in the last few yards and beaten narrowly into third place. But for that tardy start, I feel he would have won and he clearly thrives on Scottish air as seven of his eight career wins have come north of the Border and include one over this course and distance. With a decent draw near the favoured stands side tomorrow, he gets a confident vote.

Jacob Black has won four of his seven races this term – and three of those victories have come on the East Lothian circuit over 7F and a mile. He tackles the shorter trip in the Read Silvestre de Sousa at 188bet Handicap (4.30) and is chasing a hat-trick after scoring recently here at Hamilton Park.

But he has been a beaten favourite on three occasions and now shoulders the burden of 10st 3lb. Although Rowan Scott, who rode last time, is claiming a handy 3lb, the pair still face a tough task.

Instead I prefer the chances of Picks Pinta who sits at the foot of the handicap and is due to receive 19lb from the favourite. The seven-year-old has not won for almost two years, but his handicap nark has slid during that period and he now races off a 15lb lower mark than for his last success. He has run with credit of late and was beaten just over two lengths when fifth in a big field at Hamilton Park last month and the extra furlong here should suit him admirably.

Military Madame was unplaced in three starts last term but ran well when stepped up in trip and third on her reappearance at Beverley before disappointing over the same 10F trip at Pontefract.

She faded on the stiff climb towards home there, but the race may have come a little too quickly for her and she was taking on older rivals. A half-sister to four winners, she cost 47,000 guineas as a yearling and can open her winning account in the Club118 Racing Offers Handicap (2.20) when she steps back into her own age group.

Economic Crisis has a dozen victories on her CV including five on this track and can win again in the Racing Tickets Giveaways at 118 Handicap (3.25).

Alan Berry’s nine-year-old scored at Ayr last month and the runner-up there has won since to boost the form. Economic Crisis was far from disgraced in tougher grade at Chester in her latest outing where she was just beginning to weaken when hampered inside the final furlong,

She now runs off a 5lb lower mark and smart apprentice Connor Murtagh will take off a handy 5lb allowance.

Selections: 2.20 Military Madame; 3.25 Economic Crisis; 4.30 Picks Pinta; 5.00 Imperial Legend.
