Midlothian athletes continue to be in the thick of it at the Commonwealth Games.
Last night Lasswade AC member Guy Learmonth ran the race of his life to qualify for the final of the men’s 800m.
He gave it his all the the last 100m to hold of a strong challenge from athletes from Jamaica and Australia to take third spot in the semi final. His semi final heat was won by Kenyan David Rudisha, the world record holder.
In an interview afterwards, Guy said reaching the final was a “dream come true”. “I’m in a Commonwealth final at home. I couldn’t ask for anything more.”
Guy (22) lines up in the final at Hampden Park tonight (Thursday, July 31) at 7.50pm.
David Peacock’s bowling hopes have reached the quarter final stage in the men’s fours. The Danderhall man’s team, which includes gold medallists Alex ‘Tattie’ Marshall and Paul Foster, topped Section D after a 12-9 win over Wales yesterday (Wednesday). The fours line up against South Africa at 12.45pm today.
In the woment’s hockey Aileen Davis, from Bonnyrigg, and her Scottish team-mates play India in the fifth/sixth place play-off tomorrow (Friday, August 1) at 10am.
